I was obsessed with this movie when I was 7 and I still love it. This movie will make you laugh during the funny parts. There is violence but it is NOT a problem because the director had the movie at a kid-friendly level with no blood or gore. There is nothing and I repeat nothing to worry about in this movie. Sassy argues with Chance but she cares about Chance,Shadow, and their owners. Shadow is the one that leads Chance and Sassy on a incredible journey in order to get back to their owners. Chance and Sassy may fight but you can tell that they really care about each other. Chance is the funny one in the group his jokes are funny. I watched this when I was 7 and I loved it!!!! Your kids will love Chance,Shadow, and Sassy. If your child cried at it? Be glad! He's not a sociopath! The characters are believable and enjoyable, the premise simple but so effectively pulled off and whilst the humour is silly, that's just what I like about it it's a movie about talking animals where two dogs catapult a cougar off the side of a cliff, for God's sake! 100% would reccomend.

Yes, it may be a feel-good, wholesome movie, but for me it's so much more than that. It's because of all the struggles in the movie that makes the happy ending THAT much more satisfying. When I was growing up I watched this movie incessantly, it made me laugh, cry, and likely shaped who I am as a person. If you're raising 3-year-old to be incapable if handling banter, I genuinely feel awful about how they'll react once they go to secondary/high school. Since when is THAT "violent"?! I read another parent who said that they didn't appreciate how "nasty the characters were to eachother". Oh no! Sassy goes over a waterfall that she doesn't even die from! Dear lord! Shadow falls into a ditch and can't get out and is at the brink of giving up, but defies all odds and gets the happy ending anyway! The point of those scenes is to show to kids is that there is struggle in life and that you're GOING to feel defeated, but it's important to never give up and follow your heart. When in the vast history of humanity, did we become so fragile that you can't handle a G rated movie. To be honest, compared to some parents, this movie is probably better at raising their child.

Reading some other reviews of this film by parents and others has made me appreciate old movies like this, ones that hit emotional beats and takes you on a journey of emotional highs and lows that, unfortunately, you don't tend to see often in family movies now, ones that aren't incredibly tame and watered-down in order to appeal to some adults who can't be bothered to raise their children themselves and expect all movies to raise their kids for them.
